I found a naked man under my bed, says 93-year-old grandmother

An elderly woman who heard weird noises under her home thought it was an animal – but it turned out to be a naked man.

The 93-year-old grandmother living alone first thought that a stray dog or wildlife was responsible for the noises she had been hearing for months.

‘It was usually late at night, and we just chucked it off to animals being under the house,’ her son-on-law, Ricardo Silva, told NBC News.

But when her family was with her one night earlier this month, they heard loud banging noises.

‘The noises were kind of like knocking,’ said Silva. ‘It was kind of like, as my wife was walking, they were kind of knocking back from under the house so she says, “You know something’s wrong.”‘

They called the Los Angeles Police Department and officers who responded to the home on Locke Avenue in the El Sereno neighborhood found a ‘barricaded suspect’, CBS News reported.

‘He refused to leave,’ Silva said. ‘He wasn’t scared of the dogs, and the first two attempts at gas didn’t fish him out.’

Officers ultimately used tear gas to force him to surrender the next day, around 4.30pm on November 8, and he was arrested for trespassing, according to the police department.

Food and blankets were removed from beneath the house, said the grandson, and investigators believe the suspect may have been staying overnight and leaving in the mornings.

The suspect has been identified as Issac Betancourt, 27.

It was not immediately known how long he had been sheltering under the home through the crawl space that was just two feet high.

The family suspects he was there for as long as six months, based on the disturbances.
