The Netherlands are back at the World Cup for the first time in eight years after qualifying for the tournament in Qatar.
The Dutch finished second and then third at the 2010 and 2014 editions before they embarrassingly missed out on Russia 2018 altogether.
The country itself remains named the Netherlands yet their national team have picked up the monikers Holland and the Oranje.
The Dutch national team landed in Qatar on Monday evening for the World Cup football. After the warm-up training, the players will check in at the St. Regis Hotel in Doha, where they hope to stay for about 5 weeks.
There are also plenty of places for Dutch football players to relax: there is a spa and you can swim in one of the several swimming pools. The expensive hotel consists of 336 luxurious rooms and suites, all equipped with marble bathrooms and a 42-inch TV. The price per night is therefore not bad: it starts at around 500 euros. If you want a breakfast with it, you will have to pay 40 euros for it. A bite to eat is also no problem, because there are 12 restaurants in the hotel itself.
The training fields of Orange – which are like billiard cloths under the burning sun – are about a 10-minute drive from the sleeping place. Louis van Gaal’s men don’t have to travel far for the first game against Senegal. The stadium is only 20 kilometers away.
Secretary-General Gijs de Jong of the KNVB added on Sunday Radio 1 indicates that the union has checked whether the hotel meets all standards in terms of management. “We had a questionnaire drawn up by the International Labor Organization (ILO) completed. They filled it out and sent it back to us, with documentation with which they could demonstrate that they pay their salary on time and that everything is properly arranged.” St. Regis Hotel in Doha, Qatar.
